Kids Matter - The economics of fatherhood - #1 Health
Kids Matter and The economics of fatherhood. Dads can and should play an active role in the development and well-being of their kids. Top of that list right now is health, making sure they get the best nutritional and balanced diet they can, so they grow up to be fit, healthy and active adults.
Active Dads should think about helping their kids eat a balanced diet, eat and drink at regular times and take part in hobbies, outdoor activities and sports as much as possible.
It's believed that children today could have a life expectancy 10 years shorter than yours.
Why?
Food. Lots of food. The wrong foods and the biggest appetites in history.
But it's not just what THEY eat. It's what YOU eat and HOW MUCH.
Ok, chew on this...
Your child is 10 times more likely to be obese by the age of 5 if YOU are overweight.
In the US, toddlers' activity levels were found to directly correlate with their dad's body mass. Not their own. Not their mother's. YOURS.
So the more overweight YOU are the less active your child could be.
Healthy and active kids have no problem burning off calories.
But children are only as active as their body weight allows them to be.
Studies have shown that increasing the physical activity of an overweight child to reduce obesity typically leads to weight loss on average of only 90g over three years...
The equivalent of one small pot of yogurt.
80% of a child's excess weight is gained before they even begin going to primary school.
Not just puppy fat... bulldog fat.
Little boys are more likely become obese if their fathers are obese. Little girls are more likely become obese if their mothers are obese.
It's really that simple.
But word to the wise. Never, EVER, criticize your kid's weight
Children. They are what you eat.
